Bardiglio is a classic Italian marble quarried primarily in the Carrara region of Tuscany, renowned for producing some of the world’s finest natural stones. This elegant marble is characterised by its deep grey to bluish-grey base, enriched with soft linear veining in shades of white, silver, and occasionally pale blue. The name Bardiglio originates from the Italian word for “grey,” and the stone is celebrated for its moody sophistication and subtle movement.

Geologically, Bardiglio is a metamorphic rock composed largely of calcium carbonate with tightly compacted crystalline structures, making it denser and slightly more durable than many light-toned marbles. Though suitable for various indoor applications — including floors, walls, benchtops, and feature elements — it is still a natural marble and therefore sensitive to acids and abrasive cleaners. Proper sealing and maintenance are recommended, particularly in wet or high-use areas.

One of Bardiglio’s most admired features is the natural variation in veining — from fine, smoky wisps to bold contrasting strokes — giving each slab its own distinct character. The stone may also display crystal concentrations, microfissures, or mineral inclusions, which reflect its natural origin and add depth to its visual texture.

This is considered normal:

• Veining contrast and movement: Expected and celebrated; no two pieces are identical.

• Crystalline inclusions or quartz clusters: Acceptable in any shape or size; they do not affect performance.

• Micro-pits or taroli (small holes): Acceptable if under 5mm and not concentrated in excess.
