Olivetti ROJO ALICANTE Honed Artisan Cut Mosaic – VM1981

Olivetti ROJO ALICANTE Honed Artisan Cut Mosaic – VM1981
Our OLIVETTI Stone Mosaic Collection is inspired by ancient mosaic floors stretching back to Roman mosaics as seen at the Coliseum. The beautiful, detailed natural Artisan finish captures this timeless quality of hand cut stone with clear horizontal line reflecting stone strata. Olivetti Sheets are interlocking.
Rojo Alicante is a rich and vibrant natural marble quarried in the Alicante region of south eastern Spain, an area well known for its abundant reserves of high-quality decorative stone. This marble is celebrated for its deep reddish-orange to terracotta base, interwoven with white to cream veining, occasional fossil traces, and natural calcite patterns — creating a warm, earthy elegance that adds character to any space.
The striking colour and classic veining of Rojo Alicante make it a popular choice for traditional and Mediterranean-inspired interiors, as well as bold contemporary applications. It is often used in flooring, wall cladding, columns, staircases, and decorative architectural elements, lending a sense of warmth and grandeur to both residential and commercial spaces.
Geologically, Rojo Alicante is a limestone-based marble composed primarily of calcium carbonate, with occasional visible fossilised shells and organic matter — natural reminders of its sedimentary origins. While it has good structural integrity, like all marbles, it is porous and should be sealed to protect against staining, etching, and moisture damage.
Natural variations may include veining contrast, fossil inclusions, calcite streaks, and taroli (small surface pits or craters), all of which are considered part of the stone’s authentic character.
This is considered normal:
- Vein intensity and pattern variation: Expected and valued as part of its natural aesthetic.
- Fossil or shell inclusions: Common in Rojo Alicante and embraced for their organic appeal.
- Surface pits (taroli): Acceptable if less than 5mm and not overly concentrated.
These natural markings are not defects, but rather are considered evidence of the authenticity and uniqueness of the stone. As with all natural materials, minor visual differences are to be expected and celebrated.
Rojo Alicante brings a sense of timeless warmth and Mediterranean charm — a bold, natural expression ideal for richly layered interiors and statement surfaces.
As a porous material, Rojo Alicante should be sealed and properly maintained to protect against staining, especially in wet or high-use areas.
This visually expressive stone is often chosen for high-impact design applications where natural beauty and statement aesthetics are desired. Due to its rare colour composition and soft patterning, Rojo Alicante is especially popular in boutique residential projects, luxury retail spaces, and artistic installations.
